The Aldo Leopold Foundation‘s mission is to foster Leopold’s teachings of A Land Ethic, awakening an ecological conscience in people throughout the world. It is a conservation organization that works to inspire an ethical relationship between people and nature through Leopold’s legacy.
The Aldo Leopold Foundation and Prairie Moon Nursery were both founded in 1982; we’ve been conservation advocates for over 40 years!
The roots of Prairie Moon Nursery can be traced back to Aldo Leopold. Dot and Doug Wade learned how to identify, collect, and document native plants from Leopold as he advocated for commercial production of native species to facilitate ecological restoration on a large scale. Dot and Doug heeded that call by starting one of the first native plant nurseries in the country. The Wades passed their knowledge, genetic tracking, and seed collections on to their son, Alan, who teamed up with some of his neighbors to sell native seeds out of his living room. From this humble beginning, Prairie Moon Nursery was born.
The Aldo Leopold Foundation would like to thank you for your interest in their mission, and invite you to browse their website, shop their online store, or visit them starting May 1st in Baraboo, WI.
